5th Cohort of SA&A Issues, Crisis & Reputation Management Course completed on July 30, 2026

July 30, 2026 – The 5th Cohort of the SA&A Issues, Crisis & Reputation Management Course concluded on July 30, 2026 with PR and Communications professionals  from Nigeria and Ghana cutting across various sectors. i.e. education, consulting, energy, engineering etc.

The highlights of the session was on the following:

  • Understanding the difference between issues and crisis
  • Learning from real-life case studies about how to manage crisis and the common mistakes to avoid

According to Sola Abulu, course facilitator and curricuum developer,

  • I always enjoy taking this class because reputation risk management is my area of speciality and I believe the best time to prepare for a crisis is before it hits. Unfortunately, in our part of the world, there is always a belief that bad things happen to other people, so there is a tendency to not plan for crisis untill it is too late to do so. Which is why it is always interesting to have an engaged class like the group of participants we had today. There was a lot of interest in the issues management framework in this class. And a lot time was spent on the importance of monitoring and managing issues before they escalate into a crisis.

The session also reviewed a number of case studies in the Nigerian environment (2024-2025) illustrating best and worst practices in crisis management.

One point that came across clearly is that only organizations who have a crisis management framework in place BEFORE crisis hits are able to manage it effectively.

Crisis preparation is the only way to manage crisis effectively.

Comments from participants:

– I’m leaving this course with a strong sense of confidence about the impact I can make in my role going forward

– I have learnt from this course that I need to pay more attention to learning how to use frameworks for crisis communications and reputation management.

– I have also learnt that it is advisable not to use influencers in crisis management as it’s likely to backfire. Promotional strategies do not work in crisis management.

– As a communications professional, sometimes you need to be able to manage your business leader during a crisis because the organization’s response will be determined by their personality and preferences. Influence without authority is very important in this space.
