SA&A Public Sector, Policy & Political Communications Course completed on August 27, 2026

Aug 27, 2026 – The 2nd Cohort of the SA&A CPDSO-Accredited Public Sector, Policy & Political Communications Course was completed as scheduled on the 27th of August 2026 with participants from 3 African countries.

The session focused on a comparative analysis of how the 3 countries handled public sector, policy and political communications. The core of the course was to demonstrate how a strategic approach to communication can affect public sector practise.

According to Sola Abulu, course facilitator and curriculum developer,

We brought a number of case studies into the room, analysed the communications structures in all 3 countries. It was easy to see the country that was ahead of the 3 in terms of a strategic approach to communications, high reach and impact resulting in significantly high reputation and trust from its citizens. It was also easy to see the country that favoured a top-down approach to communications.

What was fascinating in all cases reviewed was how it became apparent that the more strategic, impact-driven and citizen-centric the approach to communication was, the more impactful the public sector or policy development and implementation drive or initiative was.

There was also a session focused on highlighting best practises within the continent and examples from Nigeria of public sector leaders and communicators who have differentiated themselves by taking a responsive, reflective and authentic-approach to communication.

The fundamental frameworks shared were the strategic communication framework and it was applied to all 3 contexts to show that once you understand the framework, you can leverage on it to help the government or policy institutions engage better.

The course also focused on the limitations of a purely PR approach in government context. A government communication approach that focuses primarily on image protection and perception management is likely to lean more on propaganda and spin and less likely to earn trust in the medium to long-term.

Our next onlive live course via ZOOM is the Strategic Communications Course on October 29, 2026 and the Brand Strategy & Marketing Communications Course coming up in November 26, 2026 from 9AM – 4PM WAT.
